Lawsuit Filed to Restore Grizzly Bears to Colorado

Wildlife advocates filed a lawsuit so officials would consider grizzly bears being restored to more Western states.

Grizzly bears have resurged in the Northern Rockies which is why advocates are making this push.

Grizzly bears are still a threatened species outside Alaska, and are also still protected. There are about 1,900 bears living in parts of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington.

In this lawsuit filed in Montana, the Center for Biological Diversity claimed that grizzly bears should be considered for restoration in parts of California, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Oregon.

Last year, advocated sued, successfully, for a block of grizzly bear hunts in Wyoming and Idaho.

Federal officials appealed the ruling, and plan to try for lifting protection on roughly 700 bears in the Yellowstone National Park area.
