As a kid growing up in Colorado, Halloween was our absolute favorite holiday. Why? Because of all of the free candy! Are today's kids just not that into it anymore?

Why Is Trick-Or-Treating Declining Around Colorado?

October 31st in the 90s and early 2000s meant a pillow case to fill to the brim, and a minimum of three hours walking around the different neighborhoods.

The excitement and competition between friends to see who could get the most "loot" was so much fun.

We'd literally walk for miles, sometimes in freezing cold temps because Colorado weather is pretty moody around Halloween.

Nowadays, the passion to own the night, and load up on candy has tapered off... What happened?

Why Are There Less Trick-Or-Treaters In Colorado?

Our neighborhood really goes all out for Halloween.

My neighbors fully embrace all that is spooky season with decorations, fog machines, music, and more.

I had some friends in town for Europe over the weekend who were blown away by our block.

With so much effort on the homes to get kids excited for the holiday, and to come to our block for candy, we were all pretty disappointed by this year's turnout.

The weather was chilly, but not near as cold as some of the more recent years, so that's not to blame.

Are people just less comfortable going the storage houses because the world is so insane in 2024? Maybe...

One idea I saw floating around was that maybe trick-or-treating should move to the Saturday before Halloween each year.

Would that make families want to embrace this time-honored tradition again?

If not, what do you think it's going to take to get the kids back out enjoying this incredibly fun night with family and friends?

Times change, but free candy will always be timeless... At least we thought.
