What Will the New 4th Street in Downtown Loveland Look Like When They’re Done?
Downtown Loveland will be going through a major overhaul, lasting a year, as the city is renovating 4th Street. It'll be tough for pedestrians and businesses, but in the end things should look great.
Downtown Loveland's 4th Street Project Begins February of 2025
A project, long in the planning, is set to put "boots on the ground," after the Valentine's Day festivities of 2025. Hopefully, by the time the 2026 festivities are to begin, 4th Street will be ready to help host some.
One of the objectives of the project is to develop a vibrant, engaging and unique streetscape as a regional destination
This "Heart Improvement Plan" (HIP Streets) is going to make 4th Street nearly completely different. New infrastructure (the waterlines beneath 4th are over 100 years old,) new landscaping, and a new way of parking on 4th Street.
When I was growing up in Loveland, it was a big deal when the city changed 4th Street's parallel parking to diagonal. Once this HIP Streets project is complete, parallel parking will be back.
Why Diagonal Parking on 4th Street in Loveland?
With this project, beginning February 17, 2025, they're going to be extending the sidewalks for businesses to have ample patio seating; with that, there will be less room to have cars sticking out into the street.

Linden Street in Old Town Fort Collins went through the same kind of transformation and it turned out great. That Fort Collins project costed $3.5 million; Loveland's overall HIP Streets project will cost about $24 million (none of the money came from the General Fund.)

While 4th Street will not become a pedestrian-only street, it will be adaptable, as in easy to go from short-term "pedestrian only" back to normal.
Pedestrian Pathways Will Get You to Your Favorite Spots on 4th
While the middle of 4th Street will be a mess with construction equipment, pedestrian walkways will be safe and have easy access to the businesses along 4th Street. A major goal of the project is "No Business Loss."

As someone who lives in Downtown Loveland and loves the city, I'm eager to see how this all will look by late winter of 2026. Nobody's going to love going through it all, but it will be worth it, I believe.
