Johnstown’s Retail Boom Is Just Beginning

The small town of Johnstown, Colorado, has grown quite a bit since I moved there in 2016. My wife and I used to joke that there were more cows in the surrounding area than people. We liked it.

Major Businesses Put Johnstown on the Map

Johnstown has seen an explosive growth of not only people, but businesses over the last decade. We saw the arrival of the sporting goods retailer, Scheels, and we are home to the only Buc-ee's in the state of Colorado.

When you ask about the growth of the small Northern Colorado town of Johnstown, speaking to a resident can be pretty polarizing. Some despise the idea of growth, while others are really happy that the town is seeing progress.

In 2025, Johnstown got another grocery store. This new grocery store is based in Missouri, and it has a bar in it. Talk about an elevated shopping experience. The arrival of Wood's Supermarket and Murdoch's in the Ledge Rock Center has sparked even more growth in Johnstown.

What Is the Ledge Rock Center?

Currently, the Ledge Rock Center of Highway 60 and Interstate 25 has a few tenants, but not even close to the amount of what will be in the future. Ledge Rock is a 200-acre mixed-use community in Colorado that will have dozens of new retail shops, over 1,000 new apartments, and 160 new single-family homes.

With over one million square feet of retail space, you can imagine there are going to be a lot of new stores coming to Johnstonwn. Here is a full list of all of the retailers that are either currently in the Ledge Rock Center or will be coming in the near future.

That is nearly 20 retail and restaurants that have either opened or will soon open at the Ledge Rock Center in Johnstown, Colorado. What may surprise you is that with all of these new locations opening in this Northern Colorado town, there will still be more room for growth, as there are still nearly 60 sites available for restaurants or retail locations inside the Ledge Rock Center.
