Many people in Colorado have storage units for one reason or another. Perhaps you are storing something you inherited from a relative that passed away, perhaps you downsized your home and need a unit to store some things, perhaps you are moving and need to store things temporarily, or maybe you use it to store things for a business or hide things from your significant other. They can be a little pricey, but they are necessary for many as well. No matter what you use your storage unit for, if you have one, odds are you have some things of value in it. Some people in Colorado are hiding treasures in their storage units, and there could be money, presents, and a number of things that are hidden.

While most use their storage units for items they don't have room for at home, they also hide other things. According to sparefoot.com, 31 percent of people currently hide something in their storage unit, 28 percent have hidden something in the past, and 41 percent have never hidden anything. What is the most commonly hidden thing in a storage unit? According to the survey, the number one item is a gift for a special occasion. These would likely be anniversary gifts, birthday gifts, or Christmas gifts. An astounding 63 percent have admitted to hiding these. The second most hidden item is sentimental items that have been decided not to display at home. The third most hidden item is surprisingly embarrassing collectibles. These are only a few things they are hiding, but what are people in Colorado using their storage units for?

While things are hidden in storage units, is that why people are getting them? According to the survey, 60 percent get them just for storage, 14 percent get them for creative or personal activities they like to keep secret, and, funny enough, 10 percent use them as a quiet place to escape life. While we now know what people are using them for and hiding in them, some are hiding things they wouldn't want their current partner to find. An astounding 60 percent have hidden things from past relationships in their storage unit, while 40 percent decided not to hide or store these types of items.
