How Peacefulness Plays a Role in Where You Live

Something you might not think about when you decide where to live is how peaceful it is.

When I decided to move to Windsor earlier this year, I loved how gorgeous Windsor Lake is and how cute the local businesses were. In my personal opinion, a body of water and a cute spot to pick up a tea is peak perfection.

You might be wondering what exactly goes in to determining the most "peaceful" place in America?

For me, my first thought was maybe it's the amount of hippies per capita or the number of tranquil waterfalls in the region. Something abstract like that must be based off of something just as silly, right?

How do you even determine what peaceful actually means?

What Makes a Place Peaceful?

According to InsiderMonkey, there are several, measurable factors that went into this list.

The primary metric was the average noise level which was measured in A-weighted decibels. So, the lower the average noise the more peaceful a place is, according to the people formulating this list.

Key Factors That Determine Peacefulness

A secondary metric for this has to do with access to nearby parks. Since park access is linked to mental and cognitive health benefits, the higher the percentage of people living within a 10-minute walk to a park, the higher their peace ranking.

Now, you might be thinking...wow! This sounds like a lot of places in Northern Colorado. However, not every single town cracked the list, let alone the top five.

The mean noise level is 38.53 dBA and the city has a 93% for population with park access.

What town takes the top spot?

According to this data and the list from both Travel & Leisure as well as InsiderMonkey the most peaceful town in the country is Fort Collins, Colorado.

Honestly, it makes a whole lot of sense!

Just think about it!

Fort Collins has places like Horsetooth Reservoir,  Lory State Park, and the Poudre River Whitewater Park just to name a few great outdoor spots!
