I-25 Closure in Northern Colorado One of the Biggest in Years
A crash on I-25 in Northern Colorado disrupted thousands, if not tens of thousands, of travelers in both north and south directions.
Semi Trailer Slams Into Bridge on I-25 Completely Stopping Traffic
If you weren't on the interstate in Northern Colorado on the morning of May 29, 2025, you have to consider yourself lucky. Even more lucky, is how no drivers were seriously injured in the wreck.
In the 5:00 a.m. hour along northbound I-25 that morning, a semi trailer hauling what was reported as paper and Sterno cans slammed into a bridge, that carries traffic over the interstate along County Road 38.
I have a friend who texted me at 6:40 a.m. as she was on her way home to Loveland on I-25 coming out of the Longmont area. She was just one of the thousands and thousands who were having their day "messed up" by a shutdown.
Northbound commuters were being diverted onto Highway 119 eventually being routed onto Colorado Boulevard (Country Road 13) to get them northbound to County Road 44, which took them back out to I-25 at the Berthoud exit.
Southbound commuters were taken off the interstate at Berthoud to County Road 13 to go south, eventually getting on I-25 at Highway 119. Of course, those roads don't normally handle that amount of traffic, so that was a mess, too.

My friend was stuck on I-25 for 2 1/2 hours before getting detoured off the interstate. Who knows how many travelers and businesses were effected by the crash/closure.
This is what travelers normally see along I-25 North at the County Road 38 overpass
Colorado Department of Transportation officially reopened the interstate at 2:30 p.m. that day.
