Hundreds of thousands of people drive through Loveland every year, whether they be locals, or tourists on their way to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.

In the middle of Loveland Highways 34 and 287 intersect, twice; changes are coming to those spots.

Improvements Coming to Hwy 34 and Hwy 287 Intersections in Loveland

Two of the biggest intersections in Loveland will look different by 2028, once all the construction is done to make things better for commuters and pedestrians, alike. Of course, none of the work can begin until the "money" part is figured out.

Having grown up in Loveland and now living in Downtown, I can tell you while there have been changes around the area of Hwy 34 and Hwy 287, a lot has stayed the same, including how the two intersections are laid out, for decades.

One thing that has remained for all these years, is that very popular Dairy Queen at the corner of Hwy 34 (Eisenhower) and Lincoln Avenue, consistently the top performing DQ in the country.

What Changes Are Coming to Eisenhower and Highway 287 in Loveland?

According to the Reporter-Herald, once things begin they'll be doing several things:

  • Making the turn lanes to get onto Lincoln/Cleveland both dual turn lanes.
  • An "auxiliary" right turn lane on Eisenhower to get onto Cleveland as you head east.
  • Making the right-hand turn lane on westbound Eisenhower at Lincoln longer.
  • Making the sidewalks bigger.
  • ADA accessible ramps on the corners.
  • "Refuge" areas for pedestrians to stop on in-between signal changes.

How Much Will the Project Cost?

According to the Reporter-Herald, it's estimated to cost between $15 million and $18 million. The city already has $3 million of that from a grant from the Federal Highway Administration and will be looking at other grants to fill the gap.

While it's going to be frustrating during construction, once this is all done, I think tourists and locals alike, will appreciate it.
