Four Major Wildfires Currently Burning in Colorado
The Cameron Peak wildfire, located near Chambers Lake in Larimer County, may be the closest and most well-known blaze in Northern Colorado, but there are more wildfires currently burning across the western half of the state. Currently, firefighters are battling four major wildfires in the Rocky Mountains' forests.
According to Fox News, the Cameron Peak fire has currently burned more than 12,000 acres in Northern Colorado, and more than 100 personnel are currently battling the blaze.
Meanwhile, the Williams Fork fire in Grand County has burned more than 6,000 acres and has more than 80 people working to extinguish it.
The Pine Gulch fire in Grand Junction and Mesa counties has burned more than 80,000 acres thus far. Containment is currently at 7 percent, with more than 750 personnel fighting the fire.
Finally, the Grizzly Creek fire in Glenwood Canyon has burned over 25,000 acres along Interstate 70. The containment percentage for the incident is currently at zero and more than 600 personnel are battling the blaze.
Approximately 125,000 acres of land have been burned in Colorado between the four major fires. The burned acreage is the equivalent of 195 square miles. To give you an idea of how big that is, the combined city limits of Fort Collins, Greeley, and Loveland only make up half of the total area burned.
