Teenagers usually spend most of their time at home and at school. In Fort Collins, a whole bunch of teenagers got together and dreamt up a new space to serve as a third option.

The 'TAC 212" is preparing for its Grand Opening at 212 West Mountain Avenue. This will be a Teen Activity Center open Tuesday through Saturday from 2 pm to 8 pm for hanging out and engaging in activities.

The big Grand Opening is Tuesday, June 13th, from 2 pm to 8 pm. There will be swag bags and food trucks, plus the chance to sign up for programs. Also, on site will be the youth who have been working on this project for months.

`TAC 212' is the collaboration outcome of 5 teenagers who work with the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment. They realized the need for a place for teens to hang out and be safe.

The space has options. A lounge area to watch movies or play video games. Spaces to do homework or just sit and relax. There is an art room and a kitchen equipped with a microwave to heat up snacks.

Staff for the center is hired by The Center for Family Outreach. This is something that has been needed in Fort Collins according to mental health professionals and local teens.

In an interview with the Coloradoan the youth engagement program coordinator for the county health department, Zach Ducharme, stated “This third space is a place for teens to gather and build community that’s not school and not home."

The 'TAC 212' will be able to provide mental health resources.
