Today is 11/11/11! Veterans Day! It's a day to pay tribute to our veterans! November 11th marks the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. There are a number of events planned in Northern Colorado today through the weekend.

Friday, November 11th

Flag Raising: At 6 a.m. at the Loveland Burial Park on Hwy 287 in honor of those who have passed, over 50 American flags on 18-foot poles are raised by local Boy Scouts, veterans, and volunteers.

Breakfast: From 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. breakfast will also be served at the Associated Vets Club at 305 Cleveland Ave in Loveland. The public is invited for meals for an admission charge. The funds go to the Sons of the American Legion.

Breakfast: 7 a.m.: Veterans and their families are invited to the annual Veterans Day Breakfast at the Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive. The honor guard from the CSU Wing Walkers will present the colors at 8 a.m. with a program to follow. Breakfast will be served until 10 a.m. Information: (970) 221-6644.

Remembrance Day National Roll Call

Campus and community volunteers at Colorado State University will read the names of the 6,200-plus casualties of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. The reading of names will start at 9 a.m. on the Lory Student Center Plaza and take nearly eight hours to complete as readers announce the names in chronological order.

Veteran's Day Celebration

Chili lunch, cinnamon rolls, lemonade & free chair massages, 10 a.m. to 2

Memorial service: 11 a.m.:

War Memorial near Edora Pool Ice Center, 1801 Riverside Ave.

Loveland Parade: Begins 11:11 a.m. at Railroad Avenue and Third Street and proceeds on Fourth Street, Garfield Avenue and 13th Street, ending at Dwayne Webster Veterans Park. Sen. Kevin Lundberg, R-Larimer County, will speak at noon during ceremonies in the park.

Lunch: The public is invited to the Veterans Club at 1 p.m. where lunch will be served by the Sons of the American Legion. Displays including historical artifacts, military memorabilia, and information about benefits and other assistance for Veterans and families will still be available.

Recognition event: 3 p.m. at Pathway Hospice, 305 Carpenter Road. A public event honoring all veterans that will include presentations and wreath-laying.

Veteran's Plaza Veteran’s Day Celebration

The Veteran’s Plaza at the far West end of Horsetooth Rd.

The event will feature the Unveiling of the Statue, the dedication of the Street into the Plaza for a Fallen Marine, the Raising of the Plaza’s Flags, Music before and after the ceremony by “Been There, Done That!”, and a Flyover by F-16s. veteransplazanoco.org or 970-217-6920
