Fall in Colorado includes "leaf peeping," sweaters, football and getting ready for winter, it also includes pumpkins. A man from Fort Collins took his latest to a California weigh-off and won.

It takes a lot of perseverance to keep churning out giant pumpkin after giant pumpkin, but when your hobby bears such great results, why not show it off? How far would you travel to brag about your hobby?

This man ventured over 1,000 miles to show off his pumpkin.. and won.

Fort Collins Man Wins Award in California for Giant Pumpkin

If you've kept track of giant pumpkins in Colorado for the last few years, the name Brad Bledsoe is familiar, he's won several "giant pumpkin" weigh-offs across Colorado. Now, he's won a contest held in California, taking the record for Colorado entries.

According to KDVR FOX31, Brad traveled to southern California for a contest held at the Irvine Regional Park, on September 21, 2024. Brad must have known he had a winning pumpkin to travel that far; though it probably made for a great family adventure.

Colorado Man's 1,955-lb Pumpkin Wins Award in California

The "Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off" that Brad entered had $8,500 in cash prizes; it's unknown how much Brad won by setting a new record for Colorado at 1,955 pounds.

Why California? According to KDVR, this huge pumpkin had a mouse bite and wouldn't have have "made it" to qualify for the big Colorado weigh-off in October, at Fort Collins Nursery, which he's won before.

Brad will be putting the giant pumpkin on display in Fort Collins at the Bartels Pumpkin Patch.
