The City of Fort Collins, like surrounding areas, is NOT messing around in regards to fireworks.

In a press release, the City of Fort Collins said this:

The possession and use (without a permit) of fireworks of any kind in the city of Fort Collins may result in confiscation of the fireworks, and issuance of a summons into municipal court and a fine up to $2,650.

Last year, the Poudre Fire Authority responded to a garage fire that caused over $150,000 in damage because fireworks were stored in a garage.

All fireworks, including sparklers and snakes, are illegal within the city limits of Fort Collins.

The law, passed by the Fort Collins City Council more than 50 years ago, was established to prevent injuries and fires. Like other difficult decisions lately, the law puts the safety and protection of the community first.

Fireworks aren't just a fire hazard though, they can cause a lot of damage.

The parts of the body most often injured were hands and fingers (an estimated 28 percent); legs (an estimated 24 percent); eyes (an estimated 19 percent); head, face, and ears (an estimated 15 percent); and arms (an estimated 4 percent), according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's 2018 Annual Fireworks Report (published June 2019).

  • Fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires per year, including 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and 16,900 outside and other fires. These fires caused an average of three deaths, 40 civilian injuries, and an average of $43 million in direct property damage.
