It's amazing to think that before there was Denver International Airport (DIA,) folks would fly into the heart of Denver itself at Stapleton International. That had to be scary for air and car commuters, both.

In 2025, DIA turned 30; a lot of folks celebrate their "Dirty 30" when reaching the milestone, but I don't think we need to imagine the airport hitting the club for a night of mayhem.

The 'tents' at Denver International Airport got their inspiration from the Hajj Terminal at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia.

People who travel a lot for work (or pleasure) will tell you that DIA is one of the best airports around. Even places that you would think should have nicer airports, such as Key West, Florida, are put to utter shame by what we have at DIA.

Millions of people have flown in and out of DIA over its 30 years of operation; some things haven't gone super smooth: that initial computerized baggage-handling system that was a disaster, for example, but yet the airport stands out as one of the best around.

The very large terminal at DIA is named after Elrey B. Jeppesen, who basically created the way in which planes travel around the world, with the Jeppesen Airway Manual, as it's known today. There's a statue of him in the terminal that was created by a Loveland sculptor.

What was once all farmland is now a massive transportation hub. Denver International Airport will continue to grow and serve millions and millions of more people until (maybe) one day it gets replaced like Stapleton International did in 1995.
