About 100 miles from Fort Collins lies one of Colorado's most unique eateries, the South Park Coney Island hot dog stand. It's definitely "off the beaten path" for many in Colorado; I went to visit a friend in Bailey, and made Coney Island a part of that trip.

Where is the South Park Coney Island Hot Dog Stand?

Just a couple of miles west of the heart of little Bailey, Colorado is Stagecoach Road on the south side of Highway 285. Turn off the road into the parking lot, and you cannot miss that 42-foot-long stand at 10 Old Stagecoach Road. The hot dog stand has been around since 1966; I made my first visit to it in it's 60th year.

What Does the Coney Island Hot Dog Stand Serve?

The menu at South Park Coney Island isn't complicated. They serve up hot dogs, polish dogs and brats. They do also have ice cream, shakes and floats. Folks might be glad to know that they feature Coke products rather than Pepsi; for many that can make or break a meal.

There's a little bit of seating inside (which I found surprising) and there are tables outside. You can grab a picnic table and enjoy your order overlooking the creek that runs along Highway 285. In the not too distant future you'll also be able to get a beer or cocktail from the Boardwalk Tavern (which will take the place of the gift shop's current location.)

How Are the Prices at the South Park Coney Island?

Things aren't outrageously priced, as you might expect from such a novelty dining experience. When I visited, they were serving a special Rockies Dog - the same foot-long that Coors Field serves; I had that with sauerkraut and brown mustard, and it was fantastic. Add in a regular-sized Coke and it was about $16.
