Colorado Dragon Boat Races this Weekend
Just the name itself sounds interesting: "Dragon Boat Races". It was intriguing enough when it started in 2001 to draw 16-thousand folks to Sloan's Lake in Denver. This weekend, they're expecting more than 120-thousand attendees!
It's a free event that will feature two days of competitive dragon boat racing with about 37 teams at Sloan's Lake (Sheridan Boulevard and West 17th Avenue) from 8a-7p on Saturday and 8a-5p on Sunday. Along with that, there will be five stages with a variety of performances, a children's area, and two food courts including the Taste of Asia court with a number of vendors representing 13 countries.
Organizers are asking that you avoid driving to the area given the high volume of people attending the event, but they do have a free shuttle service to and from the Auraria Campus. Also, light rail stops at the campus.
Sarah Moore, executive director of Dragon 5280, told the Highlands Ranch Herald, "(The event) is a passport to Asia without leaving Denver".
