Broncos Coach Arrested In Denver After Incident At DIA
Over the course of the past two seasons, Broncos head coach Sean Payton seemingly had nearly completely turned around the culture of the team we had grown so accustomed to losing the prior seven years running.
In addition to moving on from players taking up roster spots the needed improvement, Payton has completely refurbished the coaching staff. Add in new ownership, a ton of stadium upgrades and a playoff berth, there's been a lot to be excited about the "new" Denver Broncos in 2024 and 2025.
Unfortunately, one of those new pieces was booked in a Denver jail this morning for an incident that took place out at Denver International Airport over the weekend.
Broncos linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite was arrested on suspicion of second degree assault on a police officer, after he allegedly struck an officer who told him he couldn't leave his vehicle in the passenger drop-off area.
According to the documents included with the arrest, Wilhoite pulled up into the drop-off area and left his vehicle. As he returned, an officer told him he could not leave his vehicle unattended there, to which the coach allegedly responded, "shut the (expletive) up." After the officer repeated himself, the statement said Wilhoite approached the officer and pushed him, which caused the officer to shove back, which then led to the coach punching the officer and knocking him to the ground.
Wilhoite then allegedly got back into his vehicle as the officer tased him, closing the door and driving off once the taser was finished zapping him.
The coach has been on the Broncos staff for the last two years, after previously serving with Payton a couple years in New Orleans, then two years in Los Angeles with the Chargers before coming to Denver as linebackers coach in 2023.
The team is aware of the incident and arrest and is currently gathering information before making any decisions on actions it will take.
