Best Buy Plans to Pull CDs From All of Its Stores This Summer
First we lost 8-tracks. Then they stopped selling cassettes. Then records went away for a while. Now, according to Billboard, Best Buy has plans to pull CDs from all of its stores by July 1. The retailer will continue to carry vinyl for the next two years. Target could also stop selling CDs.
Thanks to streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify taking over and vinyl returning to popularity, CDs are becoming obsolete. Over 800 million CDs were sold in the United States in 2001. Last year that number was 89 million.
This news is very upsetting to me. I am not big on downloads and haven't had a record player for years. I want my CDs. What do you think?
