Growing up in the Midwest, one of my favorite seasonal activities was visiting the local apple orchard, where I got to fill a bag with fresh fruit, hand-picked straight off the trees. This annual visit meant Fall had arrived, and it was finally time for apple pie, hot cider, and delicious caramel apples. Lucky for us here in Northern Colorado, we too have an orchard where visitors can pick their own apples, along with other fruits too.

Located in Ault, Masonville Orchards has a seasonal U-Pick Orchard that's open for picking every Saturday and Sunday, 9am-4pm, from now through early November. Entry into the actual orchard is free, with fruit prices as follows:
U-Pick prices: $10 per basket (roughly 5 lbs), $35 per ½ bushel, $60 per bushel, and seconds for pressing $25 (limited supply). Besides a variety of different kinds of apples, there are also pears and plums to self-pick, plus pumpkins, locally produced agricultural products, as well as a do-it-yourself cider press. Checks, cash and credit cards are all accepted.

The U-Pick Orchard can be found at 42135 Weld County Road 43.
