4th Colorado Man Dies Looking for Hidden Treasure

For ten years, people have been venturing out to try and find a treasure that is supposedly worth $2 million. Many have not come back, including, unfortunately, a few brave souls from Colorado.

In 2010, a man wanted to get people outside to explore the wilderness. So, in his self-published memoir, he included clues which he said led to a treasure worth about $2 million.

I'm betting that man, Forrest Fenn, has sold a lot of copies of his book, 'The Thrill of the Chase.'  Mostly because of the treasure, I'm sure.

According to the Denver Post, thousands of folks have ventured out in search of the treasure, which is believed to be somewhere along the Colorado-Utah border.

On March 17, 2020, two older gentlemen from the Denver area decided to give the hunt a shot. They rented snowmobiles and headed out into the wilds near Dinosaur National Monument to begin their search, but when the two men didn't return, the person that had rented them the snowmobiles notified the authorities.

The men's truck was found on March 20, and the men themselves were located on Saturday, March 21. The younger of the two, a 58-year-old from Deer Trail, was declared dead on the scene. The elder, a 65-year-old from Thornton, was treated at a hospital and released.

The Denver Post reports that the two adventurers were not properly outfitted for their journey, even though they'd needed to be rescued from another of their searches in the area just two weeks prior.

Three other Coloradans have perished while searching for Fenn's treasure.
