3,000 Union Members at Greeley JBS Plant to Get COVID Vaccine
On March 6-7, 2021, JBS will hold vaccination drives inside the plant. They expect to give shots to up to 350 workers per hour.
According to 9News, JBS is even going to shut down operations at the plant for the members of UFCW Local 7 to receive the vaccine as well, since they are essential workers. Thousands of non-union employees at the facility will also be able to take advantage of the union-coordinated vaccination drive.
JBS will be giving each employee that gets vaccinated a $100 bonus as well as four hours of pay. It's a nice gesture, I just wonder if employees will be frustrated that they'll be making less money on those given days than if they'd actually worked.
JBS has had it share of problems while dealing with the pandemic and employees' safety at their Greeley plant. According to 9News, 500 employees have tested positive and six people who worked at the plant have died of COVID-19.
I watched this segment on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (as well as many, I'm sure), which provided a very unflattering look at the U.S. meatpacking industry in general, with a special shout-out to the JBS in Greeley. It is all pretty horrifying.
