Residents of the Buffalo Run apartments in Fort Collins received a rude awakening just before 4 AM Tuesday morning, when a fire forced residents to evacuate.

The Coloradoan reports that half of the units in the complex near Mulberry and Lemay were affected by the fire.

The fire blackened the second and third floors, and the attic area on its southeast corner was destroyed. It started on the exterior but moved quickly inside the building, forcing several families with children out into the chilly morning air.

The blaze caused nearly $400,000 worth of damage, but it's estimated the fire department saved close to $1 million in property value.

No serious injuries have been reported.  What a close call!
