Why Colorado Rockies Fans Should Be Excited to Welcome Kris Bryant to Denver
Colorado Rockies fans should be in a pretty great mood to close out the week! The team announced Wednesday their plans to sign free-agent third baseman Kris Bryant to a long-term deal.
Kris Bryant hs reportedly signed a 7-year deal with the team for $1.82 million. The contract includes a no-trade clause and is pending a team physical. Bryant is a client of the Boras Corporation which is known for getting the best players the most significant contracts.
Some Colorado Rockies Fans are Confused About the Kris Bryant Deal
Many in Denver did not expect a splash like this from the Rockies in the free-agent market. The team has said goodbye to players like Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story, and not many fans expected them to open their wallets for some star power.
When the Rockies said goodbye to Arenado they did so for salary space. Some have said the team might have spread all the money they are saving and spread it around the roster a little better. Instead, they said goodbye to Nolan Arenado and hired a slightly older player to replace him whose salary causes the exact same kind of problem.
Why Rockies Fans Should Be Excited About Signing Kris Bryant?
As someone who grew up in the shadow of Wrigley Field, I watched Kris Bryan make his MLB debut with the Cubs years ago, and he was a joy to watch during his time with the team. Kirs is the player who ended the 108-year curse for the Cubs. Kris made the final out that gave the team the win in the 2016 World Series. Having met him, I can say Kris is about as nice a guy you'll ever meet who always makes time for fans.
MLB ranked him as the 4th most valuable free agent in the off-season. Kris was the second overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft out of the University of San Diego. He was the MLB Rookie of the year in his first season.
When Do the Colorado Rockies Begin the MLB Season?
Now that the lockouts have come to an end the 2022 MLB Regular Season will begin for the Colorado Rockies on April 8th of this year. They will open the season at Coors Field against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Welcome to Colorado, Kris! Come out and see us in Grand Junction sometime. I know fans will appreciate Kris's effort and approach to the game to help his team win.
Here in Grand Junction, the Grand Junction Rockies will open their season at Lincoln Field with their first home game coming up on June 7th.
