Taft Hill Road Traffic Hassle Planned for June 2 Through June 5
Traveling between Fort Collins and Loveland will be a hassle on the west side of town as the City of Fort Collins needs to do some utility work near the landfill.
In late April, we let you know what they're building south of the landfill, the new Larimer County Behavioral Heath Facility. With that coming in, they need to put in new utilities which will mean a closure.
Beginning on Thursday, June 2, 2022, they will be closing down Taft Hill Road between Trilby and the Larimer County Landfill. The closure will last through Sunday, June 5, 2022, weather permitting.
Travelers coming from the south, will be detoured to Shields if they need to go further north of Trilby. I can see this closure/detour adding another 10 minutes of hassle to peoples' commutes.
Access to the Larimer County Landfill will be available from the north, but no travel will be allowed through passed the landfill. So, If you live south of the landfill and need the landfill, you'll have to drive north on Shields to Harmony Road and then come back south.
It will be interesting to see how the traffic will look in this area once the Behavioral Health Facility begins full operation. They will probably be putting a traffic light at the intersection of Trilby and Taft Hill. That could be what this closure is actually about; the press release only states 'utility work.'
If they do indeed put in traffic light, some will say it's long overdue. That intersection has been notorious for accidents.
