Watch Ringo Starr Guest on Paul McCartney’s U.S. Tour Finale
Former Beatles members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr were reunited on stage last night (July 13) when the drummer made a guest appearance at the singer’s U.S. tour finale.
McCartney had just begun his encore at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles when he announced that something special was about to happen. Starr appeared on stage and said, “Peace and love, everybody,” before moving towards his drum kit while McCartney told him: “I love you, man.”
You can watch clips of the moment below:
Starr played on the reprise part of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Helter Skelter.” After the songs, he threw his drumsticks into the audience and made a pretense of planning to do the same with McCartney’s bass. As he left the stage, McCartney led the crowd in a chant of “peace and love,” Starr’s signature message. Next, Eagles icon – and Starr’s brother-in-law – Joe Walsh came on and helped deliver “The End” from Abbey Road, although McCartney admitted afterwards that they “didn’t have a clue what we were doing.” With a successful tour behind him, he told the crowd: “Farewell to you guys. Farewell to America. Only one thing left to be said: we’ll see you next time.”
In 2017 Starr revealed that both McCartney and Walsh had recorded tracks for his 19th solo album, Give More Love, which was released in September of that year. It was the first time since 2010 that the Beatles rhythm section had recorded together. Starr posted a picture of all three artists together and reported: “What a day I’m having.”
