According to state-by-state data recently released by the CDC National Center for Health Statistics, Colorado once again ranks among the top states in the country in regards to life expectancy.

As per CDC data, Coloradans born in 2019 have an average life expectancy of 80 years; although 2018 data determined that Coloradans also had an average life expectancy of 80 years - meaning that there had been no change in year-to-year data, overall life expectancy in the U.S. increased by 0.1 year from 2018 to 2019.

The COVID-19 pandemic had an effect on many aspects of life, including average life expectancy numbers nationwide.

The overall U.S. life expectancy at birth decreased from 78.8 years in 2019 to 77 years in 2020.

A report published by Alayna Alvarez via Axios Denver says that, based on state health department data, Colorado's life expectancy dropped to 78.9 years in 2020, the year the global pandemic began.

Although the state as a whole saw a decline, the largest life expectancy declines were detected among Latino and Black populations.

Life Expectancy Specifics In Colorado

Although the most recent CDC national vital statistics show that Coloradans, generally speaking, have an average life expectancy of 80 years, further data also shows that Colorado women are projected to outlive their male counterparts by more than 4 years.

Colorado men are expected to live an average of 77.8 years, while Colorado women are expected to live an average of 82.2 years; however, even at 77.8 years, the average lifespan for Colorado men ranks the third-highest in the nation, while Colorado women's average ranks 11th.

See Where Colorado Ranks: For another year, Hawaii secured the top spot for average life expectancy in the U.S. (80.9 years), while Mississippi came in last with an average life expectancy of 74.4 years. While not first, Colorado lands among the top 10 states with the highest average life expectancy rates.
