"The Shining" holds a special place in the hearts of Coloradans, as it's based on Stephen King's stay at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. To mark the film's 45th anniversary, we can see the classic on a giant IMAX screen, for one night only. Do you have the courage, to see Jack Nicholson go nuts in IMAX?

While they should have scheduled this event around Halloween, as it was released in October of 1980, having it in IMAX theaters close to Christmas will make it feel more real; maybe there'll be a lot of snow on the ground, outside the theaters. The movie will run December 12 through 14. Maybe you'll have family/friends in town for the holidays and you can make a big adventure out of it: "We'll get a big meal, then see "Here's Johnny!" on the big screen!"

When "The Shining" came out I was only 13; there was no way Mom was going to let me go see it. She had read the novel, which freaked her out; her kids (my brother was only 10) weren't about to be exposed to it. Even if I had seen it, seeing it in IMAX today, would be completely different. There are so many "big" scenes in Kubrick's masterpiece: Picture Jack in that big bar; Jack prowling with that axe, the hallway scene; IMAX is going to eat those scenes up.
