This little nugget of e-mail wisdom is worth it's weight in gold. It really applies to any form of electronic communication. Texting, Facebook messaging, you name it. There are just too many ways to share this stuff. For extreme examples just ask Brett Favre or Anthony Weiner (the irony of his name still cracks me up), and now Pete Hanson.

I did a little flying the week before last, and I can only come to one conclusion; the airlines don’t want us to check our bags. I can’t imagine why, but there must be some top-secret reason that only airline industry insiders understand. There must be smart people behind big airline company desks that have decided it’s in their best interest for you and me to carry it all on.

I love books. I like movies. I tend to read a lot more books than I see movies. Part of that is likely because I can read books at home in my underwear (they frown on that in the theater). That's more about convenience than skivvies. Another factor is that I get much more mileage for my ten bucks if I buy a book vs. spending it at the cinema. In the past few months, there are two things that I have been reminded about problems. First, not only does everyone have them, but it's likely that many other people are trying to solve the same ones that you are wrestling with. Second, every problem has multiple layers, and when you assume you know what all the layers are, you're going to have a tougher time solving it.

So one May Day in elementary school (a long, long time ago) my classmates and I spent the day with our teacher making May baskets for our moms. We cut and pasted, and decorated, and drew, and colored. We filled them with candy, and pictures, and flowers. They were third-grade masterpieces.

It’s presidential primary season, and things are heating up. Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Tea Party, Green Party, Birthday Party; the list could go on forever. In politics, I can embrace the idea of generalities. Conservative vs. liberal. (Although, like snowflakes, those terms don't even mean the same thing twice.) Big government vs. small government. I can wrap my head around concepts.

I rolled into the drive thru at a fast-food restaurant here in Fort Collins last week to grab a bite for dinner. It’s not that I couldn’t have prepared something good to eat at home, I just had the itch for a three-piece meal with a biscuit and mashed potatoes.

I am dismayed that very few people in business return calls anymore. (Well, sure I am one of them…but that’s not the point. Or is it?) And yes, I completely understand that our lives have become dumping grounds of unsolicited sales pitches, marketing messages, and “once-in-a-lifetime” offers. And yes, I get the fact that 99.99999% of the time the communication probably is worth avoiding.

I heard someone complaining yesterday about how fast Northern Colorado is growing, and how it is losing it’s small-ish town appeal. (Which I don’t agree with.) I mean it is growing, but it’s still one of the best places on the planet. I’m not a NoCO cheerleader, I’m a guy that just got back from a week in Minneapolis. It’s easy to forget how good we have it here.

I was watching a TV show last night, and one of the characters was talking about his dislike of the saying, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” His point was that at least you’re trying to do good things. He wondered; if you end up in hell for trying to do good things, where did you end up if you just set out to do bad things?

I have been busy airport hopping this week. Why do we spend so much time, money, and effort on airport security? I understand the horror of 9/11, but we seem to have over-focused on one piece of an enormous pie. What about the unlimited number of other ways America could be terrorized? My wife and I lead a pretty exciting life. On Friday night’s we usually come home, make a couple of cocktails, and clean the house. If that’s not enough excitement for us, we might even throw in a couple loads of laundry. We like doing this because the weekend is then free of all these little tasks.
