The Sustainable Living Fair in Fort Collins is a different kind of festival. It is where music, family fun, the Poudre River and solutions for harmonious living come together on a beautiful Colorado weekend. It is a festival where you can find ideas that can help you save energy and money, and also enjoy some locally grown and produced festival fare.

The Sustainable Living Fair is in its 13th year and, in my opinion, it is in the best location for it. Legacy Park is off of North College, and borders the Poudre River. The natural serene setting is perfect for the 'green' theme of the event. There is limited parking on site and in keeping with the theme of the event, if possible it is better to walk or bike to the fair. Parking for the fair is in Old Town with free shuttles. Parking information here.

I spoke with Ray Aberle, Director of the Sustainable Living Fair, about this weekend's event.

I have a special tie to the Fair. My spare time is spent in creating songs, book apps, a website and other pieces that teach green education to kids. The Green Radventures of Nico are kids book apps for a happy planet! They feature my alter ego character the Green Minstrel and I'll be appearing, guitar and all, on Saturday at 10am at the Fair. We'll sing songs that help to keep our planet and our bodies healthy and happy, and talk about some of the simple things that we can to do contribute to an ideal world. Topics include reducing, reusing, recycling, gardening, bicycling, thrift store donations, water, and much more.

The idea for these book apps actually came directly from an experience at the 2007 Sustainable Living Fair.  I've found much inspiration there, and from the people who make up the Fort Collins community.

The Green Radventures currently has 2 different book apps that are on iPad and iPhone. They teach simple lessons about where our waste goes and the joys of gardening with interactive animations, music and stories.
