Shadow has a new home, thanks to the Weld County Sheriff's Office.

Animal Control Officers responded to a residence on Friday (January 17), when the owner reported that they could no longer care for their wolf dog, Shadow.

Officials were able to remove Shadow from the home. They safely transported her to a wolf sanctuary, where she will be able to interact with her own species.

While the specific sanctuary was not named, authorities promised that the animal was "going to a great home."

Wolf dogs are a combination of the wild wolf and the domestic dog, making their behavior hard to determine.

Unless a wolf dog is split down the middle between the two species, an animal can be a high (mostly wolf) or low (mostly dog) content wolf dog, with other gray areas.

Therefore, it is important to thoroughly educate yourself about these special animals before adopting one.
