We've been talking strange foods all week, and when I look into the world's strangest foods, there is nary a list that doesn't have Rocky Mountain Oysters on it. To be clear, Rocky Mountain Oysters are bull, buffalo or turkey testicles. When those animals make their final walk into the slaughterhouse, I think it's good to know that each part of it is going somewhere where it will be used and enjoyed. Well, many of the family jewels make their way to Bruce's Bar in Severance, CO.

Since we are so close to one of the world's most interesting foods, I felt I would be lax in my duties to the TRI 102.5 listeners if I couldn't speak from experience about this crazy culinary cuisine that is right in our wheelhouse.

So, off to Bruce's we went. It was a welcoming atmosphere. Small crowd, but it was 3pm on a Tuesday, so it wasn't peak dining time or happy hour. Our waitress was very helpful and explained that if we were there to try out the Oysters, we should go with the sampler plate that has bull, buffalo and turkey. Turkey? Yeah, and those boys aren't small.

It was in front of us in no time at all, complete with sides of cocktail sauce. I had heard from listeners that the buffalo is the best, so I started there. Check out the move by move photo montage above. As you can see by the 8th or 9th photo from the first bite, I approved. It tastes like fried meat. The consistency of the bull was a bit rubbery compared to the others, but nothing shocking or offensive. The flavor was not something that was overwhelming, and if you served it to someone and told them it was fried tenderloin or chicken, I would bet green money they wouldn't bat an eye.
