Small Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park Has Been Contained
If you noticed smoke around the Grand Lake area of RMNP this week: 1) Yes, it was a wildfire, and 2) it is now contained.
According to The Coloradoan, the Tonahutu Fire was ignited by lightning about a mile north of Grand Lake on Tuesday. It burned around 1.6 acres before being fully contained on Wednesday afternoon.
On Tuesday, six firefighters worked from the ground to contain the fire while a helicopter dropped water on the flames. By Wednesday, 25 firefighters were on the fire, including crews from the park, the Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest and the Grand Lake Fire Protection District.
