Chilly Days in Northern Colorado? Get Out for Bottomless Chili and a Cinnamon Roll
Many cities in Colorado are going to see their fair share of cold days, without question. There's a restaurant in Fort Collins that has a way to get warmed up with a bottomless bowl of chili, along with a cinnamon roll. Not just any cinnamon roll, either. The Choice City should be your choice when you're chilled to the bone, any time of year.
When I was young in Loveland, I worked a few years at [now] Colorado's only Runza location. One of the popular menu items in fall and winter was our chili and cinnamon roll special. It seemed like a Nebraska thing (Runza started in Nebraska:) some folks "got it." and some folks scoffed at having chili and cinnamon rolls teamed up together. Regardless of what customers thought, I thought it was tasty. It reminded me of those old school days at Lincoln Elementary, when they'd serve us chili and cinnamon rolls.

Years later, at the radio station, on what was the first snow of the season, I was thinking about those days. I went to post on our station's Facebook page about chili and cinnamon rolls. I thought about how nice it would be if if the Fort Collins legend, Silver Grill, had chili to go along with their famous cinnamon rolls. I asked AI if they had chili; that's when you could have knocked me over with a feather.

Not only does Silver Grill Cafe have chili, they have a special where you can get a bottomless bowl of chili and one of their legendary cinnamon rolls, for $10. I did call to confirm. To bring it "full circle," the special is called 'School Lunch.' It's true. I see a day where I stop in for the 'School Lunch" and leave an hour or two later to take a good nap.
