Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity No Longer Recognized By Colorado State University
Wow, this sounds like an ugly situation. Apparently, Colorado State University is no longer recognizing the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity (SigEp) because of a series of student code violations.
From the Coloradoan:
As of December, Sigma Phi Epsilon is no longer recognized by the university, according to CSU spokeswoman Dell Rae Ciaravola. Citing student privacy laws, she declined to provide specifics.
Losing formal recognition means the fraternity is no longer allowed to participate in CSU Greek-life activities or use the university’s name or logo, according to the school’s website.
They say the fraternity has submitted an appeal but a decision on that won't be made on it for at least a few days.
SigEp was founded in 1905 and chartered by Sigma Phi Epsilon in 1915. Recently the organization took home 'Fraternity of the Year' awards in 10, '09, '07, '05, '04, and '03.
I have a feeling there are a lot of college careers, reputations, and money on the line with this little fiasco. I have no idea what the "repeated student code violations" committed by the fraternity were, but CSU's student conduct code is 32 pages long, so it could have been a multitude of things.
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.
Am I the only one who think of Old School every time he hears about a fraternity getting shut down?
