The American Red Cross set up a shelter for families who needed a warm place to spend the night until electricity is restored to their homes.

With thousands of people affected by power outages on the coldest night of the season so far, the American Red Cross has opened four warming shelters for northern Colorado residents.

-- Longmont: Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Avenue. (The shlter had been operating as a city-run warming shelter since 2 p.m. today but has transitioned to a Red Cross shelter in order to provide services for residents who need to stay overnight.)

-- Loveland: Thompson Valley High School, 1669 Eagle Drive

-- Greeley: Island Grove Exhibition Hall, 525 N. 15th Avenue

-- Windsor: Windsor Community Recreation Center, 250 N. 11th Street, Windsor (operated by Town of Windsor and supported by DaySpring Christian Church)

The shelters will remain open overnight with cots, blankets, hygiene items and food for shelter residents.
