Severance Teen Competing in Scripps Spelling Bee in D.C.
It's been happening every year since 1925: The Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. This year, eight kids from Colorado went out to compete in the event- one from Northern Colorado!
In 2017, a 12-year-old girl from California won the Scripps National Spelling Bee by correctly spelling 'Morocain.' Who knows what will be the winning word this year?
Hopefully, Matthew Rodgers, 13, from Severance will be ready, no matter what the word is. That is if he makes it all the way to the final round!
Matthew is a 7th grader at Severance Middle School and is one of eight kids from Colorado competing in D.C. this week. Odds of all eight making it passed over 500 competitors is not likely- but, what if Matthew made it all the way to the top?
The winner is eligible for $40,000 in cash prizes, along with that big trophy and bragging rights!
Good luck, Speller #53! Get more on the other Colorado competitors from Denver7- HERE!
