School Principal In Loveland Saves Second Grader From Choking
She was visiting classrooms that day, as Principal. She finished the day as Principal AND a Hero after saving a student from choking.
A lot of things came together at Ponderosa Elementary School in Loveland on January 15, 2019, when it came to a 2nd grader NOT chocking to death.
The Reporter-Herald has the story on how Kandi Smith, the Principal at Ponderosa performed the Heimlich maneuver on a 2nd grader who as choking during class. Principal Smith was in the classroom, just doing regular check-ins, when one of the students in the class came up to the front, making gestures around her throat, indicating that she was in trouble of choking.
The Principal jumped to action and, with the Heimlich, dislodged a glass 'thinking stone' that the student had been fiddling with.
It was great that the child was smart enough and CALM enough to signal for help, and it was great that the Principal, knowing the Heimlich, was on the scene!
Principal Smith was honored by Loveland Fire Rescue Authority for her actions.
Way to go, Principal Smith!
