CSU Swimmer Kristina Friedrichs hails from Woodstock, Georgia, and is entering her final year in what hopes to be a 'close to normal' swim season.

When Kristina was finishing high school, attending Sequoya High in Woodstock, Georgia, she had her sights set on swimming for a Divison 1 program. After visiting the Colorado State University campus and talking with Coach Christopher 'Woody' Woodard, her destination was set as a specialist at the freestyle and butterfly.

Friedrichs' Junior year saw her excelling as one of the top freestyle sprinters in the Mountain West Conference:

  • 3rd best time in program history in the 50 Meter Freestyle at the Mountain West Championships with a time of 22.79.
  • All-Mountain West Honors for two Top Eight finishes.
  • Finished with CSU's best times in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle.

As she and the team train for the upcoming 2021-2022 season, Kristina looks forward to what should be a 'normal' competitive season, as last year was 'hit and miss' due to the pandemic.

I spoke with Kristina and asked her if she'd ever done any open water swimming while in Colorado.

Just once at Horsetooth in September. It was shocking, as the water was still freezing cold in September.

For friends coming to Fort Collins, she recommends Austin's followed by ice cream at Churn. If ever visiting Woodstock, she'd recommend hitting up the Little River Trail that winds through Downtown with great places to eat at and to check out.
