Platteville Employer Laying Off 1,000 Workers
Anadarko Petroleum has laid off 1,000 employees from its global workforce, the last of multiple lay off phases in the past several months for the oil industry.
The Greeley Tribune reports that, while it's unclear how many employees will be laid off in Colorado, over 1,000 employees will stay on staff in Colorado.
"The staff reductions are necessary as we work to navigate a difficult market environment, and adjust our workforce given our lower capital program and reduced activity levels," Anadarko spokeswoman Robin Olsen told the Greeley Tribune. "These steps will help ensure the organization is right sized and appropriately staffed for the current environment and well positioned for the future. We carefully evaluated what our staffing levels should be given the down cycle and what it should look like in a recovery."
Anadarko is the top oil and gas driller in Weld County, and also one of the last to lay off employees. Noble Energy, the number 2 producer in Weld County according to the Tribune, laid off around 400 workers company-wide last year, displacing about 45 Greeley employees.
Anadarko opened its Wattenberg Field headquarters in Platteville in 2014, and operates a new centralized oil stabilization facility just a few miles west.
