PHOTOS: Colorado Parks & Wildlife Officer Removes Can From Elk’s Hoof
While on the job, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers come across all kinds of wild animals, in many different situations. Most of the time, they let nature run its course, but every once in while, CPW does have to step in and help, especially if an animal is hurt or suffering.
Recently, CPW came to the rescue of a young bull elk, that had gotten his front left foot stuck in a metal can on the Evergreen Golf Course.
The elk was first spotted on October 1. The following day, Officer Nicholson was able to track him down and administer a tranquillizer shot, so that the old quart can could be safely removed.
The bull was a little slow to wake up, but eventually arose and was happy to be on his way, free of the can. CPW reminds the public to always properly dispose of trash, so animals can avoid running into these situations.
