A historic part of Downtown Greeley is 'retiring' after 98 years of business. Florio's, a shoe retailer on 9th Street, announced on Facebook that it will be closing its doors.

Leo Florio was an immigrant from Italy who came to Greeley in the early 1900s. Florio's first opened in 1922, in the Greeley Dry Goods Co. building at 814 9th Street, where it still is today — but not for much longer.

The bad news is, a little piece of Greeley history is going away, but the silver lining is that something new can take its place on a booming block of Downtown Greeley. Florio's is just a couple doors down from Luna's Tacos and Tequila and the Moxi Theater, and is in the Go Cup District in the 9th Street Plaza.
