I get that some parents would rather be a friend to their kids than an actual parent and role model, but this is ridiculous!

A woman in California is being jailed (yes, jailed) for not sending her children to school.  Her kids missed so much school without a valid excuse, that mom was in violation of the state truancy law.

Colorado has a similar law, known as the Compulsory School Attendance Law.  It states that a middle or high school student must attend public school for at least 1,056 hours during the regular school year, unless illness or another valid excuse keeps them home.

I did the math, and that comes out to 176 days of school per year (an average school year is about 180 days long).

So if you're letting your kids stay home from school a lot, make sure you at least call the school to excuse their absence; otherwise, you could find yourself in the same place as the woman in this video; behind bars!
