Surprise! Miley Cyrus is set to host the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, and if her announcement is any indication, things are gonna get weird.

Miley came out of nowhere with the news today (July 20), making the announcement on Twitter via a split photo. The image shows her decked out in one of those green latex bodysuits, an alien mask obscuring her face in the first photo. The second photo sees said mask removed, with her signature tongue-out pose on full display. Miley holds up a sign that reads, "MTV won't let me perform, so I'm hosting this year's VMAs."

We assume Miley's referencing her past performance with Robin Thicke -- you know, the one that inspired a million think-pieces. Back in 2013, she and Thicke performed their respective hits at the awards show, beginning with "We Can't Stop" and segueing into "Blurred Lines." Many took issue with Miley's sexually charged performance, all the while ignoring the fact that Thicke was an active participant, too.

Not everyone criticized the performance, though. At the time, Justin Timberlake attempted to put things in perspective when asked about the controversy. In a radio interview he said, "Listen, man, you know, it’s the VMAs. What did you guys expect? I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think, you know, she’s young. She’s letting everybody know that she’s growing up.”

The MTV Video Music Awards are set to air on MTV at 9PM EST on August 30.
