Midtown Arts Center in Fort Collins to Shut Down
They've been seating thousands and thousands for great shows since 1991. Time has come for the shows to end, as they'll merge with a competitor.
Where Midtown Arts Center currently sits, that building has been sold and turned into housing for low-income and homeless. It looks like that will be the end of the theater. According to The Coloradoan, they'll close the doors after this current 2018/2019 season.
On the bright side, Candlelight Dinner Playhouse in Johnstown will now be able to expand. According to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Candlelight is looking to go from 55,000 patrons a year to at least 75,000 patrons. Their article also notes that Midtown has brought a lot of 'edgier' productions to Northen Colorado that Candlelight would probably never have.
It'll be interesting to see what Candlelight WILL bring, as they'll be taking over the 4,000 subscription list of Midtown. Candlelight is very eager to accommodate Midtown's fans and get them in the doors starting with their 2020 season.
I've never been to EITHER of the venues. That's on me. I need to expand my horizons. Maybe with the expansion of the Candlelight- I'll venture to Johnstown for a show!
What shows have YOU seen at either of the locations?
