It was the 100th day of school for Jamie Simon's kindergarten class at Longmont's Northridge Elementary on Tuesday.

In the middle of reviewing what they've learned this year, Simon's class was interrupted with a welcome surprise — she was awarded the prize for being January's Townsquare Media Teacher Tuesday educator of the month.

Simon received the most votes of six January finalists. She won a $500 check for her school plus a collection of other prizes.

Simon said her favorite thing about being a teacher is:

"It is difficult to pick just one thing that I love about being a teacher. I love seeing the look of success, accomplishment, and proudness on their faces when they learn something new. I love hearing my kiddos read a word for the very first time. I love being able to be there to support, mentor, care for, and learn from my students each day. I absolutely love being a teacher and I couldn't imagine doing anything else."
