Mark Hamill’s Connection to Colorado History
With 'The Rise of Skywalker' coming out at Christmas, it's great to hear that the actor that made the name Skywalker famous has ties to Colorado.
Someday, I'll tell the story of how my family is 'sorta' connected to Colorado's Baby Doe Tabor. Until then, this a fun story regarding Star Wars legend Mark Hamill.
9News has the story on the Hamill House Museum in Georgetown. Yes, THAT Hamill. Turns out that Mark Hamill is the great-great-great-grandson of the man that was the home's second and last owner, William Arthur Hamill.
The house was built in 1867; he bought it in 1874. Hamill went on to make a bundle of money in Colorado's silver boom era, which began in 1879 in Leadville. He made the kind of money that had folks calling him a 'baron.'
According to HistoryColorado.org, with his wealth Hamill expanded the original home, but ended up moving to Denver in 1893, where he probably hob-nobbed with Horace Tabor.
Tabor rhymes with saber. Lightsaber. Luke Skywalker.
Today, the interwebs say that the current famous Hamill is worth about $18 million.
