22-year-old Colemann Carver has plead guilty to tampering with evidence associated with the 2018 death of a CSU student.

Finnegan Daly, 21, was a senior at CSU when he was fatally shot in the head on January 14th, 2018. Fort Collins police originally ruled the death as a self-inflicted accident, and closed the case.

However, the case was reopened after Daly's family came to the police with a Snapchat photo that showed Carver holding the gun that killed Daly. Daly took the photo about 15 minutes before the 911 call at 3:27 a.m.

The photo contradicted Carver's original statements to the police. Prosecutors soon charged him with tampering with evidence, alleging that he removed ammunition and beer cans from the room before calling 911.

Carver plead guilty to the charge on Thursday (October 31) as part of a plea deal with the Larimer County District Attorney's Office. The deal allows Carver a deferred sentence of two years.

According to The Coloradoanthe agreement requires Carver to complete substance abuse treatment, while abstaining from alcohol and other drugs. He would also have to complete random drug tests.

On top of that, Carver would not be allowed to possess, use, or own firearms during the two-year period. The agreement also requires him to take an NRA safety course and write an essay about the dangers of using firearms while under the influence, like he was the night of Daly's death.

If Carver completes all of the above requirements, he would be able to withdraw his guilty plea and avoid a felony conviction. If he did not complete them, he could face up to 18 months in prison and have to pay a $100,000 fine.

Carver's sentencing will take place on December 4th at the Larimer County Justice Center.

The sentencing was delayed by prosecution after Daly's family objected to the agreement. Carver's lawyer Derek Samuelson called the deal a "fair resolution."
