Loveland to Say ‘Safe Travels’ to Longtime Bike Shop in Downtown
Downtown Loveland is losing another storefront, as a bike shop that has been in the same location for over 75 years is saddling up for its last days.
It was Klitze's (Klitz-skis) for a long time, including when I was a kid growing up in Loveland in the 70s and 80s; but for many years now it's been known as Loveland Cycle & Fitness. Either way, soon it'll be known as 'that bike shop that used to be across from the Pulliam Building.'
According to the Reporter-Herald, the owner of Loveland Cycle & Fitness has been trying to turn the store over to a new owner, but hasn't had any luck, so the store will just close. That's too bad, but there are more than a few places these days to get bikes and fitness equipment.
Bike Shops That Remain in Loveland
- Breakaway Cycles - by Safeway (Wilson & Eisenhower)
- Days Roll By - in Orchards next to Blocky's
- Trek Loveland- (technically Johnstown) at 2534 near Scheels
- Wal Mart(s)
- Scheels
We used to get our Schwinns at Klitze's; we just called it 'The Schwinn Shop.'
Though this is another shop closing in Downtown, things are looking up for the area. They are building Comet Chicken at the corner of Cleveland and 5th Street, a new Italian restaurant has opened Cleveland, and Cleveland Station is taking shape at 5th Street and Cleveland, including a new highly anticipated bar.
The week of November 22, 2021, will see the store open for its last few days with a liquidation sale going on.
