It’s not often that a police officer has to shoot at anyone in Loveland, let alone that person dying.  Monday night (Aug 31, 2015) at Pizza Ranch on the east side of Loveland, a situation went from weird to worse as a 45-year-old man had to be shot by police.  Today, we have the victim’s name and the name of the officer who shot him.

First the man was throwing his bike while on Highway 34. Then, after police showed up, he [took a hostage] while wielding a knife inside Pizza Ranch. It sounds like a police drama on TV, but it was Loveland.  The kids who work at Pizza Ranch are young- reports say that the oldest on duty that night is only 19. Wow.

As the Loveland PD moved in – the subject grabbed a customer while holding a knife.  LPD Police officer Jennifer Hines- a 10-year veteran, shot the subject – William Rippley (45).

Instinct and quick action are credited to the officer

The whole chain of events began with Ripley and another man being on the median Highway 34 – and then Ripley pushing his bike into oncoming traffic, hitting a minivan with a mom and kids inside.  There’s no report yet on who the other man on the median was, or his connection to Ripley.
