I grew up in Loveland and currently live in Loveland. I've been in the area all my life. In all my 50+ years, I don't think that I've ever seen the City of Loveland do this before. That's why it's so great that they're doing it- even if it is for just one day.

They'll be renaming Lake Loveland in honor of a longtime swim coach who passed away, suddenly, recently. Kevin Polansky was the swim coach when I went to Loveland High School back in the 80s. At that time he was into his second of three decades of being a legendary swim coach.

On Saturday, January 20, 2018, I would expect a lot of people to be out walking the path around Lake Loveland. It's on that day that the lake will be called Kevin Polansky Lake, in honor of the beloved swimmer, swim coach and ambassador of the sport.

Loveland's city council voted to change the name of Lake Loveland for one day in honor of the award-winning swim coach, at a regular meeting held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018,  ten days after Coach Polansky collapsed at a masters swim practice at Mountain View High School in Loveland, and later died. He was 67.

Coach Polansky did it all- swam, coached swimming, he taught P.E. and Social Studies; he was an announcer for swim meets, he even had his own financial firm. The word of his passing brought many loving comments from past students, friends, and citizens of Loveland. Everybody knew and loved the Coach.

This will be a great day and a great way to honor the man who loved the water.
